The HUPD’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) Chair plays a key role in building and maintaining active relationships between the Harvard University Police Department and the diverse population of students, staff, faculty, and visitors that comprise the Harvard Community. Similarly, the Chair delivers awareness and communication facilitation, acts as a resource for individuals and groups, and provides the community with available programs and resources.
The Chair is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the Department’s externally facing equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging initiatives and programs designed to meet the changing needs of the community. In addition, the Chair will collaborate with the Department’s HR function in the development and implementation of internal EDIB initiatives aimed at enhancing an inclusive and safe environment at HUPD.
The role of the Chair also includes:
- Identifying, analyzing, and addressing problems arising between the Department and the University's wide range of communities;
- Helping to eliminate barriers and dispel myths that may exist between the police and the community;
- Mediating conflicts between the Department and the community and between particular communities themselves; and
- Providing EDIB training within the Harvard University Police Department.
