Cambridge Police Share Safety Tips & Information on Recent Unarmed Street Robberies

The Cambridge Police Department is asking residents to be vigilant after two recent unarmed street robberies occurred in Cambridge.

On Friday, August 10, 2012, an unaffiliated female reported to the Harvard University Police Department that she was the victim of a rape in Harvard Yard at approximately 3:15 AM. The victim was grabbed as she entered the Yard through the Johnston Gate and was pulled behind Massachusetts Hall and attacked.

The victim described the offender as a very tanned, possible Hispanic male, mid-twenties, 5’7” in height, medium build, dark hair, wearing a white shirt.

On Friday, August 17, 2012, an unaffiliated female reported to the Somerville Police Department that she was the victim of a rape in the area of Oxford and Kirkland Streets near Harvard University on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, sometime after 11:00 PM. Harvard University Police Department detectives are working with Cambridge Police Department detectives to investigate this incident.

The victim described the offender as a white male, mid-twenties, 5’6” in height, thin build, dark spikey hair, wearing dark pants.
